March 16th - 20th

ELA:
Hello my dear homeroom! Go outside every day and read. That's what you need to do. You will be missed so please know you can email me any time. Keep checking the blog. Here are some websites to get you started:
https://cbe.ab.ca/programs/curriculum/learning-at-home/Pages/6-9.aspx
https://readtheory.org/auth/login
Please share your 3 poems with hmfeke@cbe.ab.ca and antonio.lopez@ucalgary.ca in order for them to be marked. It would be awesome if you could also share a video of you speaking one of your poems to me! I will be looking forward to your dramatic readings!
Book Talk projects should be shared with me digitally, if you have not already done so. Even if this is a video of you talking about your book, or a picture of what you have created, that would be great. Read on!
Here is my D2L shell: https://d2l.cbe.ab.ca/d2l/home/602866
As soon as I hear more information, I will let you know via this BLOG and D2L.

Social: More to follow after spring break, but here is the social textbook for online. Please read chapter 6 for this week.

Math :

I hope everyone is doing well. Even if you can't come to school I would encourage to try and take some time every week to do a bit of Math and try to practice some of the skills you have learned this year. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.Many great websites are available to continue  your learning such as Khan Academy on youtube.

Don't forget that you can also use the website Math Drills to access worksheets to practice.

Please note that I am not at school this week and that if you come to clear your locker you can go see Ms. Strickland across the hall to give her anything that needs to be handed back.

Science:
March 19th
Please continue to check PowerSchool for comments and marks on recent assignments/tests or for things that have been handed in late.

The Calgary Board has been setting up material for parent and teacher online use and learning. A reminder that khanacademy.org is a world renowned and CBE approved website for learning math. Khan Academy also has learning in other subjects. Students or parents can (thought they don't have to) set up an account on there to track student progress. There are a wide assortment of math lessons, quizzes and tests to help students learn and track their progress. I'd also remind students that knowing your times tables and being able to recall them quickly, is a very important skill and one that high school teachers see as fundamental for a student to be successful. In other words - practice your times tables! Parents/guardians also teach your child strategies that can be used when a child does not have the times table memorized.

For science, I want to remind students that there are a lot of fun and educational science YouTube channels available.
ASAP Science
Minute Earth
Minute Physics
Veritasium
Kurzgesagt
Vsauce
It's Okay to be Smart
SpaceRip     (my personal favourite)
Many successful science channels have developed sister channels as spin offs.

Also be sure to check your favourite science website for links to similar channels

Missing you guys!
Mr. Davis
